Haida Gwaii island is part of British Columbia off the West coast of Canada. To get there, I will travel by ferry from Vancouver Island up the Inside Passage. That is a route tucked close in to the coast, between all the smaller islands and the inlets. This is the best map I could find showing both Vancouver Island and Haida Gwaii, and is actually a map showing the distribution of the Haida Gwaii slug; the staala gwaii. Not sure why there are some living at Brooks Peninsula, they must have stowed away on the ferry. OK – the slugs have gone! This is a new map, though not new enough to call the island Haida Gwaii. It still has it’s old, colonial name of Queen Charlotte.
